Annual Story Book !

Date | Wed, 21 June 2006
Time | 6.30 pm for 7.00 pm
Venue |
The Clarence

Dear Leanne,

Come to the Clarence for the annual Storybook event where two successful people will share with us how they reached the top of their games. Learn from them as they share with us the keys to their success as well as some of the trials and tribulations they have encountered along the way.

JOAN MILLAR

Joan Millar is owner and Chief Executive of Millar, a specialised Ladies Knitwear Designer and Producer established in 1982. Wool is one of Ireland’s big fashion success stories. Although it was once synonymous with the Aran sweater, the Irish woollen scene has gone through a re-invention over the last couple of decades and now plays a major role in the fashion industry.

Joan’s company is design-led and produces three collections a year all of Irish origin.  Themes include luxury yarns and interesting blends that are unique for their quality both in chunky and fine gauges.  The Millar brand sells to Japan, USA, Europe, UK and of course Ireland.

Joan will address Network Dublin on the challenges facing manufacturing businesses in Ireland and how adaptable they must be.  Joan originally produced all her products in Ireland but recently moved some production to Asia to cater for the larger volumes and lower prices that are expected today.

DENIS T.C O'BRIEN

Denis T.C. O’Brien is International President of Les Clefs D’Or – the International Union of Concierges.  Les Clefs D’Or is a worldwide organisation with 3,300 members in 38 countries.
And this is the first time an Irish person has been elected International President.

Denis has been a concierge since 1986 and during the course of his work he has assisted many international dignitaries, VIP’s, Ambassadors and Celebritie.

Denis will share some of his experiences and how networking is such an important part of his job.  He will also discuss the importance of membership of a professional organisation and the growing interest for women in becoming concierges, a job traditionally associated with men.

Denis is Head Concierge at Marriott Druids Glen Hotel & Country Club.

Negotiating to Win
Carmel Buttimer - Preview

last months event

A rainy Irish evening saw the brave Network Dublin members and guests negotiate their way picthrough the traffic and weather to the Clarence Hotel.

Carmel Buttimer took us straight into the definition of Negotiation and how the topic of the talk should be “Negotiating to Succeed” as in a successful negotiation there is not a winner or loser.

Carmel then explained that "If we really want to be successful in our various negotiations, then we must pay as much attention to the other side's needs and wishes as we do in framing our own 'offering'. Successful negotiating skills has now become a core competency, rather than some 'occasional' set of skills we pull out for the 'grand occasion'."

Negotiating To Suceed Course
Due to popular demand Carmel is offering all Network Dublin members the opportunity to attend a One Day Course on Negotiating to Succeed.  The course will introduce you to the well renowned Negotiation Model and equip you with the skills to put them into practice.  The course is a must for all women who have to negotiate a multitude of situations and relationships each day.

The course will be run in July in Dublin City Centre and all Network Dublin members will receive a 20% discount and can attend for €365 including lunch.

Contact Carmel on: 295 6152 to book your place.
