On 20 February Ian Whyte of Whyte and Sons Fine Art Auctioneers educated and entertained over 70 women in the Stephen's Green Hibernian Club. He gave us invaluable tips on art collecting and how to situate yourself at an auction. If you don't want people in the audience to know you're bidding, sit in the front row - simple, but effective!
Ian’s presentation included a beautiful slide show of work from some of Ireland's best known artists along with a few up and coming names. He encouraged us to go along to auctions and galleries to educate ourselves on the ‘art’ of art collecting. Until you find your own preference, ask questions and introduce yourself to those whom may know more about the particular work you are viewing. Most people you meet at art auctions are more than happy to share their knowledge and can be very encouraging to new collectors. Networking can be of value in all walks of life!
